MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY

  • Antibiotic: Treat infections of bacteria and other microorganisms.

  • Antibacterial: Destroys the growth/reproduction of bacteria/bacterium.

  • Antidote: A solution that counteracts poison.

  • Antifungal: Limits and prevents growth of yeast and fungal organisms.

  • Antiparasitic: Treatment of parasites.

  • Antiseptic: Kills germs topically (antiseptics are external applications)

  • Antiviral: Kills, repels, suppresses, and defeats a virus to kill reproduction.

  • Antiemetic: Prevent and treat nausea and vomiting.

  • Antioxidant: Elimination of free radicals.

  • Anticarcinogenic: Reduces cancer.

  • Antispasmodic: Reduces muscle spasms.

  • Antiviral: Kills or prevents the birthing of viruses.

  • Astringent: Makes tissues constrict, and reduce flow of secretions.

  • Abortifacient: To cause miscarriage.

  • Antiemitic: Kills and expells worms, also called vermifuge.

  • Aphrodesiac: Increases libido.

  • Cathartic: A strong laxative. (See Purgative)

  • Demulcent: Soothes internal membranes, add moisture to tissues.

  • Diuretic: Increases the flow of urine.

  • Expectorant: Discharges the lung mucous.

  • Purgative: promotes a drastic evacuation of the bowels.

  • Styptic: Usually an astringent herb that stops bleeding.

  • Tonic (Chinese): A plant that increases the vital substances: (Qi, blood, yin, yang)

  • Tonic (Western): A plant that restores or invigorates. Usually called an alterative.

SANSKRIT { संस्कृतम् }

  • Ama: mental & physical toxins produced by poor digestion that accumulate over time due to lifestyle.

  • Agni: the enzymes, or fire. It is the transition from external (food, memories, experiences) to internal through strong, or weak digestion, and metabolism.

  • Caksu: Eye, eyeball.

  • Chakra: Energy centers in the living, spiritual body.

  • Dharana: The process of absorbing information into memory.

  • Dharma: Ones duty, task, truth. Your karma is your dharma.

  • Kriya: Applying a remedy, committing a healing action.

  • Madakari: That which causes intoxication to the mind|body|spirit

  • Marma: Vital, sensitive points within the body (approx. 1O7 in the body)

  • Malas: Waste products: Sweat, feces, regurgitation, and urine (mutra)

  • Nadis: Qi | Chi | Prana | Energy channels made of astral matter.
